When we think about going on an interview, we all get those butterflies because we are worried about succeeding. There are three easy tips for succeeding that will lessen the butterfly feeling.
The first tip is to do your research. When on an interview the last place you want to be in is not knowing the job you are applying for. Research the company, look at what they do for the community, look at their mission and values, and most importantly look at what the company provides its customers. Don’t be afraid to have a question ready about the company that you can ask at the end of the interview.
The second tip is to know a few stories about yourself that can answer basic but sometimes challenging questions. These questions might be what is your biggest success, what are some weaknesses that you have, and the biggest one, tell me about yourself. These seem like easy questions, but when put on the spot we can forget everything and anything about who we are. Be prepared and memorize a little something for each question, so that when you are asked those questions, you know exactly what you want to say.
The third tip is to dress for success. You want to be able to present yourself well when on an interview because this will most likely be the first time this company is looking at you in person. You always want to dress a level above. This goes back into doing some research. If you find the company is casual, maybe collared shirts and pants, wear a button down and some nice slacks. If the company is more professional and you see ties in some pictures, make sure to wear a tie and maybe even a jacket. The most important thing is that you do not want to dress too professional or too casually.
